Katrina formed
on August 23 during the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season and caused
devastation along much of the north-central Gulf Coast.
The figures
at the bottom of the painting, struggling to survive this deluge,
are caught up in a swirl of emotions: grief, disbelief, helplessness.
One figure has ascended into the arms of Katrina and is being
swept away. Is this a moment of salvation or, perhaps, of death?
When this painting
is hung up on the wall, you are directly facing those hands,
wrinkled by a prolonged wading through the muddy water. |
